Robbert‑Jan Kamstra specializes in resolving complex commercial and international disputes, with a strong focus on collective actions and large‑scale litigation. He has extensive experience in high‑stakes proceedings involving cross‑border elements, corporate disputes and mass claims.
Before joining Milberg, Robbert‑Jan gained broad litigation experience in both judicial and commercial settings. He worked as a judicial clerk at the Commercial Law Section of the Amsterdam District Court, was part of the in‑house legal team at ASICS’ European headquarters, and practiced as a litigator in the dispute resolution department of Baker McKenzie. This background enables him to combine procedural expertise with a strong understanding of commercial and strategic considerations.
Robbert‑Jan has acted for clients in a wide range of complex disputes, including international arbitration proceedings, post‑M&A litigation, shareholder and corporate governance disputes before the Dutch Enterprise Chamber (Ondernemingskamer), director liability cases, fraud and asset recovery matters, interim relief proceedings, insolvency‑related litigation and the successful levying of pre‑trial attachments in the Netherlands and abroad. He regularly represents clients in matters involving significant financial and reputational interests.
In recent years, Robbert‑Jan has developed a particular focus on collective actions and mass damage litigation. He is closely involved in high‑profile collective claims under the Dutch WAMCA regime, including proceedings concerning consumer rights and competition law issues in the gaming sector, as well as environmental mass damage claims relating to PFAS pollution. In these matters, he advises representative organisations on litigation strategy, governance, funding structures and cross‑border coordination.
Robbert‑Jan is registered as an attorney‑at‑law (advocaat) in the Netherlands and has registered general civil law (algemene praktijk, burgerlijk recht) as his principal legal practice area in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister). In accordance with the standards of the Netherlands Bar, he is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year.
