Milberg Amsterdam has filed a lawsuit against Sony on behalf of Stichting Massaschade & Consument. On February 19, 2025, Milberg Amsterdam, together with Gerardin Partners and Stek Advocaten, officially launched the “Fair PlayStation” campaign aimed at tackling unfair business practices by Sony that have harmed millions of Dutch PlayStation users.
For years, Sony has abused its dominant position in the console market by selling PlayStation digital games exclusively through the PlayStation Store. This has led to artificially increased prices for digital games and in-game content, with consumers sometimes paying as much as 47% more compared to physical versions. This has caused Dutch gamers to overpay for their digital purchases for years.
By filing a lawsuit, Milberg Amsterdam hopes to obtain compensation for affected consumers and end Sony’s abuse of its monopoly in the console market. Milberg Amsterdam aims to promote fair competition and pricing in the PlayStation digital ecosystem, ensuring consumers no longer bear the brunt of excessive prices. With the ‘Fair PlayStation’ campaign, Milberg Amsterdam is calling on all Dutch PlayStation users to join the fight for justice. By working together, consumers can hold Sony accountable for its unfair practices and ensure a fairer market for digital games.
Milberg Amsterdam is committed to the rights of consumers and striving for a fair and transparent marketplace. It is determined to make this case a success and bring justice to all affected PlayStation users in the Netherlands.
